News

Disability Matters was officially launched in February 2015, and contains 57 e-learning sessions and 7 face-to-face training modules. Since its launch there have been over 6000 sessions completed by users.

The team continue to work with organisations to develop tailored learning packages for their staff or volunteers. These learning packages offer a small number of Disability Matters e-learning sessions that have been grouped together to meet a particular learning need.

In November 2016, the Disability Matters team launched its report ‘Disability Matters in Britain 2016: Enablers and challenges to inclusion for disabled children, young people and their families’ (www.rcpch.ac.uk/disability-matters). This report offers practical, inspiring and down to earth examples of inclusion and a range of suggestions on how to ensure that disabled children and young people are meaningfully included in the health and education services, leisure opportunities, sport and everyday activities that we all take for granted.

The report encourages readers to challenge their attitudes and behaviours towards disability by accessing identified modules within the Disability Matters e-learning portal to support change at both a personal and organisational level to help disabled children and young people to achieve what matters to them.

Learning Packages

On the Disability Matters site you will also find our popular Short Learning Packages.  Learning packages offer a small number of Disability Matters e-learning courses that have been grouped together to meet a particular learning need.

Although designed to stand alone, when you take the e-learning sessions in sequence with other carefully chosen topics they will lead to greater insight and deeper learning.

We have worked with a number of organisations to create special short learning packages for their staff or members, a few are listed below:

  • Aspire

  • Achievement for All

  • British Red Cross

  • Careers Wales

  • College of Occupational Therapists

  • Grace House (Sunderland)

  • Institute of Health Visiting

  • Royal College of Nursing

Supporting Organisations

Disability Matters is here to help you support staff and develop a strong and inclusive culture for disabled individuals. Organisations can use Disability Matters to:

  • foster an environment of inclusiveness and respect for disabled children, young people and their families;

  • make appropriate decisions on best practice;

  • feel confident in their ability to engage with disabled children and young people;

  • build a common language using simplified terminology and unified response.

Short Learning Packages are the ideal way to encourage staff to engage with the programme.  See above section on Learning Packages for more information
