More information

NICE and European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) guidelines currently state that a pressure ulcer risk assessment must be undertaken on admission or transfer to another area (or first visit in the community). This programme will enable registered nurses to demonstrate their ability to accurately grade, risk assess and manage pressure ulcers. The programme can be used to supplement existing training provision and may also be of benefit to healthcare assistants and allied health professionals.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Identify patients at risk of developing a pressure ulcer

  • Recognise the grade of a pressure ulcer using the EPUAP classification tool

  • Identify the difference between a pressure ulcer and a moisture lesion

  • List the possible actions to prevent the occurrence or deterioration of a pressure ulcer

  • Recognise the need to review and adjust interventions in a timely manner

  • Recognise the importance of recording all assessments, interventions and reviews
