Interventions guidance aims to support babies, children and young people

Posted on: August 9th, 2023 by Louise Garrahan No Comments

A new schedule of interventions tool has been added to the existing interactive pathways elearning programme.

The resource aims to help local commissioners and service providers navigate current guidance and materials within the Healthy Child Programme – the national public health framework for babies, children and young people.

These schedules bring together evidence, guidance, information and resources to describe local prevention and early intervention and ongoing care activities from preconception to adulthood.

It includes information about preconception care, promoting child development, improving child health outcomes and ensuring that families at risk are identified at the earliest opportunity.

Local authorities, the NHS and other partners can use the tool to inform the commissioning and provision of good quality services for children, young people and families at every level of need, from community and universal to targeted and specialist.

For more information and to access the new resource, please visit the Interactive Pathways programme page.

New programme on managing atopic dermatitis now available

Posted on: August 3rd, 2023 by Louise Garrahan No Comments

NHS England elearning for healthcare has worked with the Pfizer to develop a new programme on the current and future management of atopic dermatitis, also known as atopic eczema.

This very common skin condition, caused by skin inflammation, may start at any age but the onset is often in childhood. 1 in every 5 children in the UK is affected at some stage. It may also start later in life in people who did not have atopic dermatitis as a child.

The 30-minute session looks at the pathophysiology, risk factors, clinical manifestation, patient experience, current treatment and future therapeutic treatments of atopic dermatitis.

It is aimed at healthcare professionals with an interest in atopic dermatitis, such as GPs, children’s community nurses, health visitors, practice nurses, dermatology trainees, paediatric and dermatology nurses and pharmacists.

For more information and to access the new session please visit the Current and Future Management of Atopic Dermatitis programme page.

eLearning programme tackles England’s health inequalities

Posted on: August 2nd, 2023 by Louise Garrahan No Comments

Clinical practitioners across the health and care sector can access training on reducing healthcare inequalities across England.

The resource complements the Core20PLUS5 which identified the following five clinical areas in need of rapid improvement:

  • hypertension case finding
  • chronic pulmonary obstructive disease (COPD)
  • cancer
  • maternity
  • mental health

The elearning resources cover these five areas and includes an additional module on healthcare inequalities among patients of sickle cell disease.

By the end of these modules, learners should have a good understanding of health inequalities within each area and should be able to communicate with patients about their clinical condition and care, support shared decision making with patients from marginalised groups and mitigate barriers in accessing services.

For more information and to access the modules, please visit the Health Inequalities programme page.

Posted on: August 1st, 2023 by Louise Garrahan No Comments

A new elearning programme that helps the early years workforce better understand the links between breastfeeding and perinatal mental health is now available on the NHS Learning Hub.

Developed by NHS England elearning for healthcare, the Anna Freud Centre and the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, the programme explains how breastfeeding and perinatal mental health are intertwined, and what factors can influence this relationship. It also provides tools and guidance to support staff to deliver self-reflective, person-centred care.

The elearning consists of 2 sessions:
Session 1: The relationship between infant feeding and perinatal mental health
Session 2: Practical skills to support families with infant feeding and perinatal mental health

The programme is intended for anyone involved in providing support to families during pregnancy and the first couple of years after birth, including midwives, health visitors, infant feeding support workers, perinatal mental health specialists, psychological professionals and early years workers.

On completion of this training, staff will be better equipped to provide holistic, wraparound care that is tailored to the needs and circumstances of the family.

For more information and to access the sessions, please visit the Breastfeeding and Perinatal Mental Health programme on the NHS Learning Hub.
