Introduction to Population Screening now live

Alex Drinkall, 25 July 2019
NHS Screening

The new Introduction to Population Screening elearning programme, developed by Public Health England and Health Education England elearning for healthcare, provides healthcare professionals with a guide to screening.

The elearning includes common misconceptions and explanations of important terms such as sensitivity and specificity and will be of particular interest to those working in local screening services or public health.

The module covers:

  • what population screening is and the generic screening pathway common to all programmes
  • the national screening programmes in England and their target populations and conditions
  • the limitations of screening and the difference to diagnosis
  • the screening cycle, from evidence to implementation and quality assurance
  • the different organisations involved with screening programmes in England, including Public Health England, NHS England and the UK National Screening Committee

Public Health England provides advice and guidance to the NHS. The national population screening programmes identify apparently healthy people who may be at increased risk of a disease or condition, enabling earlier treatment and informed decisions.

The elearning resource is available now on the elfh Hub. For more information about the programme visit: https://www.e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/nhs-screening-programmes/
