Critically Appraising the Evidence Base

NHS Knowledge for Healthcare Learning Academy has partnered with NHS England’s elearning for healthcare to add 7 new sessions to the Critically Appraising the Evidence Base elearning programme.
Critical appraisal is the process of systematically evaluating and assessing research to check its quality, relevance and validity.

Essential to evidence-based practice, it helps enrich research and learning and can be applied in a range of circumstances, such as formal or informal research projects, professional development or while studying.

The new sessions complement the existing Introduction to Critical Appraisal session and provide an introduction to:

  • Health Inequalities
  • Critical Appraisal of Randomised Controlled Trials
  • Interpreting Results for Critical Appraisal
  • Critical Appraisal of Systematic Reviews
  • Critical Appraisal of Qualitative Studies
  • Critical Appraisal of Diagnostic Studies
  • Critical Appraisal Tools

By the end of the programme, learners will understand why critical appraisal is important for study, research and professional development. Learners are also encouraged to provide feedback on the programme via the evaluation survey.

For more information and to access the programme, please visit the Critically Appraising the Evidence Base programme page.
