About the Back to the Floor programme

The Back to the Floor programme is for nurses/midwives with active registrations but who are out of recent clinical practice and wish to return to care with confidence and competence in order to regain experience and employment. With that in mind, it presents two strands, one for those returning to midwifery, and another for nurses.

Back to the Floor – Midwifery

The aim of the programme is to support midwives who have an active registration but are not currently working in clinical practice to return to care with confidence and competence, in order to regain experience and employment.
The programme consists of:

  1. core elements to reintroduce current NMC Future Midwife standards and the Standard for Supervision and Assessment.
  2. information about how the current health and social care systems are organised
  3. resources to enable to you develop your own learning

The elfh programme will be available alongside clinical support from a practice mentor to support your transition back into clinical work. The types of clinical training available are listed below (the list is not exhaustive).

  1. Baxter pump training
  2. E-learning for looking up blood results/ordering blood tests/scans etc.
  3. IV and non-IV drug administration
  4. Medicines ordering
  5. IT training for admitting patients
  6. Patient observations training
  7. Supplemental; oxygen therapy training
  8. Epidural and intrathecal analgesia
  9. Human factors training
  10. Blood taking/Cannulation
  11. Fetal monitoring training
  12. Blood transfusion competencies
  13. Neonatal life support
  14. Glucometer training

Back to the Floor Programme for Nurses and Nursing Associates

The aim of the programme is to support nurses and nursing associates who have an active registration but are not currently working in clinical practice to return to care with confidence and competence, in order to regain experience and employment, including General Practice.

The programme consists of:

  • core elements to reintroduce current standards of practice and supervision
  • information about how the current health and social care systems are organised
  • resources to enable to you develop your own learning, with the support of a practice mentor

How to access

In order to access any elfh programme, you will need an elfh account. If you do not have one, then you can register by selecting the Register button below.

To view the Back to the Floor programme, select the View button below.  If you already have an account with elfh, you will also be able to login and enrol on the programme from the View button.

If you already have an account with elfh, then you can enrol on to the Back to the Floor programme by logging in to the elfh Hub, selecting My Account > Enrolment and selecting the programme. You can then access the programme immediately in the My e-Learning section.

NHS healthcare staff in England – ESR

The Back to the Floor programme is also available to NHS healthcare staff via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). Accessing this e-learning via ESR means that your completions will transfer with you throughout your NHS career.

Not an NHS organisation?

If you are not an NHS health or care organisation and therefore do not qualify for free access elfh Hub, you may be able to access the service by creating an OpenAthens account.

To check whether or not you qualify for free access via OpenAthens, you can view the eligibility criteria and register on the ‘OpenAthens’ portal.

Registering large numbers of users

If you are a HR, IT or Practice Manager and would like to register and enrol large numbers of staff within your organisation for access onto the Back to the Floor programme, please contact elfh directly.

Organisations wishing to use their own LMS

For HR departments wanting to know more about gaining access to courses using an existing Learning Management System please contact elfh directly to express interest.
