About the Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) programme

The Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) module has been developed by SHOT to give learners an overview of HFE and relate these to transfusion safety. It describes definitions and frameworks in addition to models that have been adapted by SHOT to support an organisations HFE work relating to systems and incident investigation in transfusion. Real interactive transfusion examples are included to embed learning and inform HFE best practice, and signposting towards next steps and where to find more information.

Learning objectives include:

Recall what is Human Factors

Differentiate between what is human factors and Human error

Factor in the link between emotional attachment and Human Factors

Recall Human Factor frameworks and models that have been adapted for SHOT which support your work

Review best practices in relation to Human Factors and Transfusion

This course will take around 45 minutes to complete.

Primary and secondary audiences

Healthcare professionals involved in transfusion – nursing staff, laboratory staff, clinicians, transfusion practitioners, as well as haemovigilance and risk management specialists.

To access this programme, you will require a Learning Hub account. If you do not have one, then you can register by selecting the Register button below. Note that if you hold a full elfh account, you can sign into the Learning Hub using your existing login credentials.
