About the Pharmacy Educational Supervisor Training programme

The elearning programme aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills needed in practice or educational supervision roles. It will enable learners to gain confidence and satisfaction from their supervision activities, improve the training experiences of trainees and enhance learners’ contributions to the development of a highly skilled pharmacy workforce.

This programme currently includes 2 modules, developed for those in the pharmacy sector who are involved in the training of others, including supervising shadowing experiences, or undertaking official educational supervisor roles. The modules include interactive activities and case studies to guide you through the content.

  • Module 1, Core skills: Introductory level topics, relevant to practice and educational supervision. This module is recommended for all as an introductory module or to refresh existing knowledge.
  • Module 2, Enhanced skills: A deeper learning approach to topics relevant to practice and educational supervision, providing context for specific programmes. This module is recommended for practice and educational supervisors involved in specific regulated pharmacy training programmes and those who wish to develop their skills further.
  • Development of an Advanced skills module with learning applicable to more complex situations relevant to practice and educational supervision, will be determined upon the workforce needs.

Both modules cover the following topics in increasing complexity:

  • mentoring
  • coaching and facilitating
  • leadership skills
  • planning teaching
  • patient-centred teaching
  • assessment
  • feedback
  • reflection

Learners are asked formative questions to help test and reflect on their knowledge.

Module 1, Core skills: takes around 2 hours to complete on average.

Module 2, Enhanced skills: takes around 3 hours to complete the main sections and learners can select to complete further learning on specific pharmacy training programmes.
