About the Robotic Process Automation programme

This programme, developed in partnership with NHS England and Improvement Transformation Directorate, is designed to provide NHS professionals with digital knowledge and capabilities to harness Robotic Process Automation (RPA) software.

RPA is software that automates routine and mundane tasks to improve productivity and operational efficiency.

Since 2020, NHS healthcare providers and commissioners have been increasingly adopting RPA technology to automate many of their clinical and non-clinical admin processes such as HR, finance, patients booking and registration.

This programme supports the upskilling of NHS professionals involved in developing, procuring, implementing, and using RPA solutions in the workplace by acting as ‘how to guidance’ for senior leaders and the wider NHS workforce, across health and social care.

The programme consists of five modules, which build on each other:

  • Module 1 – Introduction to Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
  • Module 2 – Getting Started with RPA in your organisation
  • Module 3 – RPA Procurement and Implementation
  • Module 4 – RPA Service Delivery and Sustainability
  • Module 5 – RPA Technology and Market
  • Module 6 – RPA for NHS professionals: assessment

Each module takes 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Upon successful completion of all five modules and the final assessment, learners will be able to download a certificate.

More information

This training programme follows national guidance and is aimed at supporting organisations’ digital transformation journeys by providing the right tools and encouraging discussions locally.

NHS providers and social care decision makers such as chief information officers (CIOs), chief clinical information officers (CCIOs), IT and HR leads/directors, digital transformation directors and regional and ICS leads can find support in this programme for upskilling their teams digital awareness and knowledge.

As each module increases in specialty subject matter, this programme may also benefit wider NHS users such as RPA developers, project/programme managers, frontline and back office admin staff and business analysts.

Regardless of where you are in your automation journey, we hope this training acts as a valuable resource as you start or continue to deliver outstanding, digitally enabled care to the NHS and Social care.
