This resource is for trainee and early career pharmacy professionals and other pharmacy professionals working in any sector of practice, who wish to gain a fundamental understanding of the principles of integrated care systems (ICS) and how it works, to deliver better health and care for everyone.
It will help you understand the vital role you and other pharmacy team members can play to support the priorities of your local ICS based on the NHS Long Term Plan.
The training is divided into 3 parts:
A certificate is available for completing this elearning programme.
All areas in England were mandated to be part of an ICS by April 2021. 42 ICSs have now been established bringing together various NHS organisations, local authority and strategic partner organisations in collaboration to plan and deliver better and more integrated care for their local population.
Pharmacy teams provide services across health and care settings, working with other health and care professionals and teams. Pharmacy leaders are also members of strategic and operational teams and are responsible and accountable for the planning and delivery of services within ICSs. It is essential for members of the pharmacy team to understand how they contribute to achieve the priorities of their local ICS.
ICSs around the country are at varying levels of advancement in their establishment and operation. Following the completion of this elearning programme, you should be able to identify the ICS where you work, and the priorities set for the ICS. You should also be able to start building up a network of key contacts within various organisations and teams in the ICS to improve joined-up provision of services and care for your local population.
