New Fit Note elearning is available

Rachel Gowland, 1 July 2022
The Fit Note

Developed in partnership with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), the Fit Note elearning programme has been developed in response to changes in regulations which specify who can issue a fit note and how it must be done. It is recommended training for anyone who may now be able to sign fit notes.

Changes to who can issue fit notes took effect on 1 July 2022 and enable nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and pharmacists to certify and issue a fit note. Doctors may also find the resource useful.

HEE has developed guidance to support the 4 new professions who can legally sign a fit note. The guidance includes information about the knowledge, skills, experience and training they are expected to have before certifying fit notes.

The guidance accompanies the elearning programme and can be accessed at Fit note – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

About the elearning sessions

The sessions in this elearning programme aim to provide health and care professionals with guidance on having conversations which support people in remaining in and returning to work. There are 4 sessions in the fit note programme which aim to improve the learners understanding of the fit note using a case study approach and a final assessment. A certificate be available to download on completion of the programme.

Before starting the Fit Note elearning sessions, learners are recommended to complete the Work and Health training in the elfh Hub, which provides a general introduction to this area: Work and Health – elearning for healthcare (e-lfh.org.uk).
