About the Primary Medical Care; Commissioning and Contract Management programme

This suite of specially designed sessions aims to provide NHS commissioners of primary medical care services (GP services) with a deeper appreciation of some of the more complicated commissioning or contract management scenarios they may face. They complement the ‘Policy and Guidance Manual’ for primary medical care that can be found on the NHS England/Improvement website.

The sessions within this suite will be of interest and benefit to commissioners and others with responsibility for overseeing primary medical care contracts in CCGs and NHS England/Improvement regional teams and can contribute to internal audit recommendations as well as individual continuous professional development

The sessions have been developed under the leadership and with the expertise of national policy, legal and commercial colleagues with input from ‘end users’ including some regional teams and CCGs

Course content – the suite of sessions includes:

  1. Approving GP Practice Boundary Changes
  2. Special Allocation Schemes (SAS)
  3. GP Contractor Changes: Incorporation And Novation
  4. Handling threats to the continuity of GP services
  5. Developing a Primary Medical Care Service Procurement Strategy

Each module should take between 30-40 minutes to complete and there is a short self-assessment at the end of each module with results provided immediately.
