Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh) has worked in partnership with the Hillington Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the University of the West of England and Health Education England’s maternity team to develop a new Maternity Support Worker elearning programme.
The Maternity Support Worker programme is based on 4 modules which complement the Maternity Support Worker Competency, Education and Career Development Framework.
The 4 modules are:
- Anatomy & Physiology: this session gives an overview of anatomy related to the role and case studies provide opportunities for learners to consider how to apply knowledge of physiology to their role and the care they provide
- Immunisation: this module will aid an understanding of the immunisation programme in maternity, why vaccination is recommended and the vaccination schedule.
- Legal and ethical frameworks: this session will explore the relevant legislation and national guidelines that inform practice and topics including confidentiality and duty of care.
- Screening: this session focuses on a conversation between a Maternity Support Worker and an expectant mother and explores what screening is and why it is necessary.
More information, including access details, is available on the Maternity Support Worker programme page.
