Posted on: October 29th, 2015 by admin No Comments

Experts in dementia studies from the University of Bradford have modernised Health Education England’s online dementia courses – ensuring the perspective and experience of people living with dementia and their family members is central to the learning.

The programme offers a range of research and best practice from the UK and internationally to ensure excellence in person-centred dementia care. It addresses the Prime Minister’s Challenge on dementia by ensuring a compassionate, coordinated and person-centred approach to dementia care from diagnosis to end of life.

The sessions offer a rich learning experience through use of high-quality videos of personal experiences, interactive quizzes and opportunities for self-reflection.

Professor Murna Downs, Chair in Dementia Studies at the University of Bradford, said: “We are proud to play our part in directly addressing the prime Minister’s Challenge on Dementia 2020 by supporting all those who care for people living with dementia and their family members, from diagnosis through to end of life”.

The care of people that are dying and support for their families is something that almost all health and social care staff contribute to, consider of great importance in their role and can get great satisfaction from. e-ELCA is a key resource for the development of staff to provide competent, compassionate and dignified care for patients at the end of life and support for their families.

Visitor and Migrant NHS Cost Recovery Programme

Posted on: October 13th, 2015 by admin No Comments

A series of e-learning modules and introductory video have been developed by E-learning for Healthcare (e-LfH), working with the Visitor and Migrant NHS Cost Recovery Programme at the Department of Health. The e-learning package is designed to support NHS organisations in their implementation of the Visitor and Migrant NHS Cost Recovery Programme following changes to the Overseas Visitor Charging Regulations in April 2015.  The e-learning is not intended as a substitute for the guidance to these regulations but to support understanding of the rules.

The Cost Recovery Programme was set up in July 2014 to improve the systems for charging overseas visitors and migrant for their NHS healthcare in England. The programme aims to support and reinforce the principle of fairness by ensuring that everyone who can should contribute to the cost of the NHS without undermining the principle that the NHS is free at the point of delivery for residents.

The E-learning modules have been tailored to specific roles including Overseas Visitor Managers (OVMs), frontline administrative staff and clinicians.

A video “A guide for clinicians: cost recovery and working with Overseas Visitor Managers (OVMs)” has also been developed with the help of clinicians and OVMs.

The online training sessions enhance traditional learning, support existing teaching methods and provide a valuable reference point. They are designed and built to be engaging and interactive, using quality images, video, audio and animation to help trainees learn and retain knowledge. Content is presented using various templates such as ‘real-life’ scenarios, case studies and ‘knowledge bites’.
