Oliver McGowan Code of Practice Launched

Posted on: June 20th, 2025 by Charlotte Murray No Comments

The Department of Health and Social Care has launched the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice, marking a significant milestone in improving healthcare for people with a learning disability and autistic people.

The Code, which supports the statutory training requirements introduced by the Health and Care Act 2022, was laid in Parliament on 19 June 2025 and sets clear standards for CQC-registered providers.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism – named after Oliver McGowan, who tragically died in 2016 after a severe allergic reaction after receiving medication despite family objections – is the government’s recommended training package. Over 3 million people have already completed the elearning modules and there are now more than approved 2,700 trainers delivering interactive sessions for part 2 nationwide.

For more information about Oliver’s Training, visit:  The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism | NHS England | Workforce, training and education.

The elearning modules are also available on the elfh website.

June Foundation Programme Update

Posted on: June 12th, 2025 by Charlotte Murray No Comments

We have a Foundation elearning programme which aligns all elearning sessions with the 2021 curriculum.

F1 doctors who started in August 2024 will have been enrolled to the new Foundation elearning programme on 30 June 2024. Check your emails for this or notices on the elearning for healthcare hub. Doctors who become an F2 in August 2024 will continue with their current enrolment.

Remember if you have not already used our elearning, the Foundation elearning programme is an official resource designed specifically to support you in completing the 2021 Foundation Curriculum and is available for free via NHS England’s elearning for healthcare hub. Topics cover the entire Foundation Curriculum and completing sessions early will help you get more out of your attachments in the Foundation years. Each of these sessions are mapped to the Foundation Curriculum and will provide evidence the General Medical Council that you have completed the Curriculum. The Foundation elearning programme will help you cover parts of the Foundation Curriculum that you would otherwise not encounter. Your sessions will be recorded in your eportfolio.

You can sign on to the elearning with your login supplied by elearning for healthcare at any time during your foundation training: https://www.e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/foundation-programme/

HORUS and TURAS have deep links to elearning for healthcare sessions from the Foundation Curriculum and therefore accessible to all trainees, making it quicker and easy to access the appropriate session linked to the curriculum.
