Medical Problems in Pregnancy undergoes review and name change

Posted on: May 18th, 2023 by Louise Garrahan No Comments

The Medical Problems in Pregnancy elearning programme has recently been reviewed and renamed Multidisciplinary Approaches to Maternal Health.

Developed with NHS England’s Maternity Team, the programme was originally aimed at internal medicine trainees, but following a significant review of its content, it is now aimed more widely at multi-disciplinary teams that deliver maternity services.

Multidisciplinary Approaches to Maternal Health features 10 modules covering topics including pregnancy physiology, prescribing safely in pregnancy and mental health. The sessions include interactive exercises, case studies and short videos to increase learners’ knowledge and confidence in this field.

By the end of the programme learners should gain a deeper understanding of physiological and pathophysiological influences that impact on women’s health during pregnancy, and their infants. They should also be able to evaluate the common medical disorders in pregnancy and communicate their knowledge to healthcare professionals that deliver patient-centred care.

Learning Disability session added to All Our Health

Posted on: April 19th, 2023 by Louise Garrahan No Comments

The All Our Health elearning programme has been updated with a session on learning disabilities.

Developed by NHS England elearning for healthcare and the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, the resource will help colleagues to provide the best possible support for people with a learning disability and their families, throughout their lifetime.

The resource has been developed in response to latest figures which show that there are approximately 1.3 million people with a learning disability in England who tend to experience poorer physical and mental health and significant health inequalities compared to people without a learning disability.

To help address these inequalities, the session aims to help health, care and the wider public health workforce such as emergency, local authority and integrated care board staff:

  • understand the importance of specific activities and interventions that can affect the wellbeing of people who have a learning disability and their families
  • consider resources and services available locally to support individuals and their families to live more independent, healthier lives, for longer
  • promote holistic family wellbeing

The elearning also features helpful additional resources from organisations including the Royal College of Nursing and Skills for Health’s core capabilities framework for people with a learning disability .

For more information and to access the resource, please visit the Learning Disability session within the All Our Health programme.

New programme on Complex Clinical Reasoning now available

Posted on: April 11th, 2023 by Louise Garrahan No Comments

NHS England elearning for healthcare has worked in partnership with University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, and St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to develop a new elearning programme on complex clinical reasoning.

To safely and effectively assess, treat and manage people in our complex health system, it is essential for professionals to use complex clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.

The new Complex Clinical Reasoning elearning programme aims to support clinicians working along the continuum of enhanced to advanced practice, who want to learn about the complexities of clinical reasoning across the NHS to develop key knowledge around the clinical reasoning process, including how to implement this in clinical practice.

This programme will be of value to many practitioners wanting to expand their field of clinical reasoning during the progression of their careers along the continuum of enhanced to advanced level practice. It has been designed to run in parallel with supervision in practice for developing clinical reasoning skills in both the elearning and clinically based components of the programme’s learning advanced practice supervision and contains a detailed supervisor guidance pack to enable further critical thinking and reflection.

The programme consists of 9 elearning sessions in total, which can be accessed in any order or timeframe.

Each session sets out clear aims to help learners grow confidence in the clinical reasoning process. This includes, identifying examples of clinical reasoning strategies, describing new and outdated clinical reasoning frameworks and explaining the benefits associated with a multi-professional approach.

Upon completion of the programme, both learners and supervisors can print evidence of achievement to include within their portfolios.

For more information and to access the programme, please visit the Complex Clinical Reasoning programme page.
